Cloning templates

I really enjoy how efficiently I'm able to navigate through Harmony and perform tasks. It's very easy to get into a flow.

The only thing that really disturbs this flow is creating new templates which have much data in common with another template. Some of my templates have ~12 data fields, and I find it quite laborious to manually duplicate all the data fields when creating a page variation. A "Clone this template" button, which copies all the data/content would be awesome.

It is possible to create data fields that are automatically added to each template? For example, I usually allow an author to manually override the tag, and I keep forgetting to re-add a title_tag field to each template I create.

Hope you aren't annoyed by the constant stream of feedback from me :)

Interesting. I like the duplicate template idea. It is not possible to create data fields that are on each template. That idea doesn't strike me as useful to everyone as the first (template dup'ing).

We love feedback. Obviously we can't do it all, but feedback like this really helps us decide what to do next and what to put on the todo list.

This problem is definitely getting more noticeable as I get further into the process for this client site. It's quite time-consuming and error-prone trying to make page variations.

One possibility idea -- rather than site-wide data fields -- is to allow includes to have data fields associated with them, and then have a way to specify includes associated with a template.

This would make it much easier for me to have something like banner_image.html included in a handful of templates, without having to re-create the banner_image data field in each one.

We just deployed the ability to create a new template based on another one this morning. To try it, simply create a new template and pick the one you would like to copy from. Doing so will duplicate the templates contents and fields.

    Your welcome. ;)
